Multi-Phased and Multi-Tiered

Namib Futures empowers the next generation of Namibian leaders through education, mentorship, and clearly defined pathways to success. We work with high-potential students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, bridging the gap between their current circumstances and their long-term leadership potential.

Our initial focus is on Namibian students (Phase 1), with planned expansion to learners across southern Africa in Phase 2, and ultimately to students throughout sub-Saharan Africa in Phase 3. By strengthening skills, expanding opportunities, and cultivating a deeper sense of possibility, we provide the support needed to translate aspiration into achievement—and to build a legacy of transformative change.

Tier 1

We have developed a multi-tiered program framework consisting of: (1) talent identification, (2) scholar support, and (3) leadership development.

We identify potential scholarship candidates through our partnership with the Mondesa Youth Opportunities (MYO) program, as well as through recommendations from teachers in both MYO and local public schools. Selection is guided by a combination of academic potential, demonstrated leadership qualities, and financial need.

2026 marks the second year of implementing Tier 1 of our program. We initially selected two students in 2025, followed by an additional 13 students in 2026, bringing the current cohort to 15 students supported in 2026. Our long-term objective is to scale this cohort to at least 75 students annually within the first five years of the program, while maintaining sustained support for each student throughout their post-secondary education journey.

The primary success metric for Tier 1 is the number of students identified and selected each year, reflecting both the reach and effectiveness of our talent identification efforts.

Tier 2

Tier 2 of the program provides comprehensive scholarships and structured mentorship. We currently provide support for Namibian students matriculating at universities in southern Africa. Scholarship support includes accommodation, living expenses, learning materials, and other essential costs, with tuition covered where applicable, given that public universities in Namibia offer no tuition fees.

Each student is paired with a member of the Namib Futures team who serves as a dedicated mentor. Mentors engage with students two to three times per term to ensure smooth transition into higher education, support academic registration and adjustment, address challenges as they arise, and provide ongoing guidance in personal development and leadership. In the future, we plan to expand this mentorship model to include a broader network of external professionals. A future success metric for Tier 2 is the graduation rate for our students.

A Future Tier 3

Looking ahead, we plan to launch Tier 3 of the program focused on leadership development. This will include structured training in leadership, critical thinking, digital and AI literacy, and other essential 21st-century skills designed to prepare students for meaningful professional and civic impact..

All programs are currently funded directly by members of the Namib Futures team, with additional support from some of their employers’ charitable contribution match programs. If you are interested in supporting our work, please visit our Donate page to learn how you can contribute.
