Johanna's Journey
From Mondesa to Nursing School – A
Story of Determination and Hope
Johanna is a senior Bachelor of Nursing Science student at Welwitschia Health Training Center in Walvis Bay, Namibia.
Raised in the Mondesa township in Swakopmund, Namibia, her determination and academic potential were recognized early through the Mondesa Youth Opportunities program. At Namib High School, she distinguished herself as both a top-performing student and a committed leader, earning the title of Best Overall Learner, serving as Treasurer of the Learners’ Representative Council, and contributing as a member of the Junior Erongo Regional Council in Swakopmund.
Today, Johanna is pursuing her ambition to become a nurse dedicated to serving her community. Through the Namib Futures Scholarship, she receives support for tuition, housing, and living expenses—enabling her to fully focus on her studies and build a meaningful future.
Johanna is looking forward to graduating in 2027.
Crystal's Journey
Crunching the numbers
Crystal is a second-year accounting student at Stellenbosch University in Stellenbosch, South Africa. With a strong aptitude and passion for mathematics from an early age, she aspires to become a Chartered Accountant and ultimately contribute to strengthening the financial management of communities, institutions, and public sector organizations.
Her academic journey began with her selection into the Mondesa Youth Opportunities academic support program in Grade 6, a foundation that paved the way for her admission to Namib High School in Swakopmund, Namibia, where she continued to excel. In Grade 12, she was awarded the Learner Management Award in recognition of her leadership, discipline, and academic excellence.
Crystal is a determined and resilient student who has consistently overcome significant challenges in pursuit of higher education. Namib Futures is proud to support her with accommodation in South Africa as she works toward completing her bachelor’s degree and advancing toward her professional goals.
